Meet Rosie Khandwala: The Woman Behind Sugar Coated

There are some stories you can read—and others you need to hear from the person who lived them.

This week, Sugar Coated founder Rosie Khandwala joined Beauty Business Matters to share her story, her expertise and the journey behind the brand we are so proud of today.

We may be slightly biased, but we think you’ll fall in love with Rosie just as much as we have.

A Sugar-Waxing Tradition That Began in Tanzania

Sugar Coated is so much more than a hair-removal brand.

Rosie grew up on the northeast coast of Tanzania, where she learnt the traditional art of sugar waxing from her mother and older sisters.

It was knowledge shared between generations: a natural beauty ritual rooted in family, community and experience.

After moving to Britain, Rosie continued making sugar wax herself before going on to work with The Body Shop and develop professional sugaring products.

More than 40 years later, that knowledge, tradition and expertise sit behind every Sugar Coated pot.

An Expert Who Still Wants to Help Others Learn

One of the things that inspires us most about Rosie is that she doesn’t keep her knowledge to herself.

Sugar waxing is a technique. Preparation, wax consistency, hair length, application and removal all make a difference—and Rosie genuinely wants to help people understand how to get the best from their products.

She doesn’t believe in simply selling you a pot of sugar wax and leaving you to work everything out alone.

From educational videos and step-by-step journals to live demonstrations and Q&As, Rosie continues to make decades of professional knowledge accessible to people learning to sugar wax at home.

That generosity is a huge part of what makes Sugar Coated different.

A Founder With a Story Worth Hearing

Behind every independent brand is a person who has taken risks, overcome challenges and continued to believe in an idea long before everyone else could see it.

Rosie’s story is one of heritage, expertise, determination and an unwavering belief that hair removal can be more natural, considered and accessible.

Sugar Coated is proudly Made in Britain, vegan, cruelty-free and created using 100% natural sugar wax. But its roots stretch much further—across generations, cultures and continents.

That combination of tradition and innovation is what makes Rosie’s story so special.

We are incredibly proud to work alongside her, and constantly inspired by her warmth, resilience and willingness to keep teaching others.
